While Daddy's Been Resting

Stephen has spent most of the weekend on the couch due to his sprained ankle. We thought Emerson would probably get pretty frustrated that dad couldn't romp around and play with him but instead Emerson has used Stephen's injury to his advantage. Emerson has been read lots and lots of books, been able to have cuddling sessions whenever he wants, has played the Wii, and even a little basketball (I moved the hoop into the living room and Emerson gets the balls for Stephen and Stephen shoots them). Here are a couple pictures of them hanging out together.

Championships and Sprained Ankles

Thursday was the championship game for Stephen's intramural basketball team. It was the JAC against the 423rd and turned out to be a very intense game. The score was close at the end of the first half but during the second half Stephen's team pulled ahead and ended up winning by 19 points. After three to five minutes into the game Stephen got hurt and was out for the rest of the game. He fell hard on his right ankle after colliding with a player from the opposing team. As a spectator (and wife) it was scary seeing Stephen hit the floor and being able to see that he was in a lot of pain. We stayed for the rest of the game and after a few photos headed to the Emergency room.

We were very lucky to find out that Stephen hadn't broken his ankle but just sprained it very badly with torn ligaments. So after a couple hours in the ER we came home and got Stephen set up on the couch. The next day Stephen woke up to a very swollen and bruised ankle and foot. It obviously is quite painful so Stephen has been spending most of his time on the couch with his foot propped up and taking plenty of ibuprofen to help with the swelling.

Baking

Emerson is a big fan of baking. He loves to help stir the ingredients together in the bowl. It usually gets a little messy and not everything always stays in the bowl, but Emerson likes to feel like he's helping out and a part of the process. These pictures are from last week when we were making pizza dough.

Talking

Emerson has become a crazy little talking machine. He's vocabulary is growing a lot and he enjoys telling you what he wants or what he wants you to do. Yesterday he was very insistent that he and Stephen go for a walk outside. He kept pulling at Stephen (who was sitting down) telling him 'walk' 'walk'. When Stephen got up Emerson lead him to the front door and continued 'walk' 'walk'. So even though it was cold outside they went for a walk. Then this morning Emerson and I were cuddling in bed and Emerson started talking about books and balls in his sleep. It was so cute. He must not get enough minutes in the day to get all he has to say out so needs to do a little while he's sleeping as well.
